My Shop

Outside view of shop
Over the last few years, I have really developed a passion for wood working. That passion requires a place to work and some good tools to work with. I have been able to collect a respectable set of tools and I have a nice place to work. This "portable" building is made from insulated steel panels and measures 14 feet by 20 feet.

View from door of shop
When I first started wood working, my shop was a mess and I spent most of my time looking for everything and building nothing. In my "real life work" I am a Manufacturing Engineer who specializes in process improvement, including work space arrangement (5S for those who know what it is). Part of what I teach at work is that you can work better if you are not hunting for your tools all the time. I have tried to apply this training to my wood working hobby as well. The true benefit is that if I only have 45 minutes to work in the shop, they are 45 minutes that I spend making something.

Scroll Saw
As you probably have guessed my work centers around my scroll saw. I use a DeWalt saw because (in my opinion) it is the best saw in it's price range. I have had this saw for 10 years and it has worked great! I usually sit while sawing and prefer to cut with #7 or smaller reverse tooth blades. Flying Dutchman blades seem to hold up the best. The blades are stored in the tubes toward the back of the saw.

Buster the shop guard
One of the coolest features of my shop is Buster. He and I have been through a lot together and if I'm in the shop, he's in the shop. My other little dog doesn't like the shop so she will only stop by if I'm handing out food. Buster lives for the shop, and if he isn't sleeping too deep, he is a pretty good guard dog to boot.

Here are some general pictures of the shop. If you have any questions, feel free to drop me an e-mail.
